IT IS the new Thai cafe putting tradition at the top of its menu.

Thai Street Cafe, in Pound Tree Road, Southampton, which opened its doors to the public at the start of the month, offers hungry shoppers and office workers the chance to sample the flavours of Bangkok.

Katie Walton and Nong Waempracha co-own the small restaurant and described their meals as “high-end street food” using traditional Thai ingredients.

Katie added: “It’s always been a dream of ours to open our own Thai Café and to introduce authentic Thai flavours to the people of Southampton in a street food-style setting

“We’re both passionate about the food of our homeland and we’d love to welcome you to our cafe.

“Our first day was very successful, there were lots of people.

“Me and my partner have always liked cooking and we used to meet up every week to cook traditional Thai meals.

“The business is getting there but it is a lot of hard work. We just want to please our customers.”

The noodle bar has been awarded a five out of five hygiene rating and has proved an instant hit with the local Southampton Thai community.

The menu offers 50 different Thai dishes including Thai chicken wing, Massaman curry, slow cooked pork or beef noodles, Pad Thai and Thai coconut soup.

For those who are feeling more adventurous options such as spicy Thai snails and chicken feet are also up for tasting.

The restaurant has 24 covers and also offers a takeaway service.

The doors are open 11am to 5pm on Tuesday to Sunday.
