A NEW gym school will be launching in Tidworth to enable more youngsters to get involved with sport.

Following the success of the project in Salisbury, Wiltshire Council's Gym School will be expanding to more areas in the county, including Tidworth, to give children the opportunity to improve gymnastic- essential skills including balance, strength and flexibility.

John Thomson, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for leisure, said: “Following the success of the Gymnastics School programme at Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre, this is an exciting opportunity for young people to get involved in gymnastics in other areas of the county, and is a great way to encourage longer participation in sport."

Classes will be delivered for 50 weeks of the year and all activities are led by fully qualified British gymnastics coaches.

Cllr Thomson added: "We already have a waiting list of over 60 young people in Salisbury, so we expect demand for these new sessions to be high.”

Children of all ages, abilities and experience are welcome, with 200 young people already taking part in the Salisbury project at Five Rivers.

The sessions will begin in Tidworth Leisure Centre on Tuesday, March 19, for more information about class times or to book a place, contact the centre reception by calling 01980 847140.
