IT is the pub with the best garden in Winchester.

The Willow Tree in Durngate Terrace is known best for its captivating outdoors area, which is sided by a stream of the River Itchen.

But that is not the only selling point that landlord Julian Gibb thinks his pub has.

The ex-diving instructor took over the Greene King site five years ago, and claims that although The Willow Tree is 'absolutely a Summer pub,' there is much for the customers to enjoy all year round.

Julian said: "Our new natural wine selection is something I hope people will go crazy for. What's not to love?

"They're made with less chemicals, so you can drink more and not worry about having a hangover in the morning. It's like healthy eating but more fun!"

The food menu offers a range of meals that change over the week, with a menu of dishes for £7 each, and the promise to have two vegan dishes available and at any one time.

Julian says that there is a wedding party held in the pub almost every weekend.

He said: "Lots of people come here to celebrate, particularly in the Summer. We have so much space available for them to use, serve good food and cheap drink. It's always good to see people enjoying themselves here.

"It's like a neverending DIY project because I constantly want to improve things, but I definitely feel it's worth it."

Later in the year, the landlord told the Echo that open mic nights will return to the pub garden.

He added: "We get lots of music in, which people can watch for free. Just as the sun is setting, the river is flowing and you've got a drink in hand with someone singing to you, you realise there aren't many better places to be."
