AN INVESTIGATION is underway after tonnes of rubbish has been dumped in a Hampshire lay-by .

The incident took place at around 9pm on February 27 in Scrag Hill lay-by off of the A27 Botley Road in North Baddesley.

In an online post Test Valley Borough Council said: "This huge fly-tip took place around 9pm last night along the A27 Botley Road, North Baddesley.

"Did you witness this, or have any information? Contact the Environmental Service on 01264 368000.

" All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence."

Residents spoke of their anger the morning after the incident took place.

Heather Selfe,74 said: "It happens a lot here and it makes me cross.

"It happens several times a year, and it's because it is easily accessible.

"Loads of school children walk up and down here.

"This is dangerous."

Christopher Rendall, a resident of 30 years said: "I'm tired of this happening.

"It happens at least three of four times a year.

"It is a great pity as it is a route for dog walkers, school children and cyclists and there is glass everywhere.

"Some form of technology monitoring system should be put in place."

Another resident who wished not to be named said: "It is a travesty and it's not nice for anyone.

"I walk through here everyday and this is the worst it has been for a while."

The clearing of the rubbish is currently underway and Test Valley Borough Council have been asked to comment.
