THIS Hampshire pub has been refurbished, with updates being made to the decor and menu.

The Sun Inn, at Romsey, has had a refurbishment within the last three weeks, changing from an American theme to a more traditional pub theme.

The landlady of the Winchester Road premises, Carol Rickman, said the rebrand was to turn it into a “traditional, local, bar-style pub”.

The 50-year-old said: “I’ve been here seven years, and started with an American theme, but I have decided to go back to a traditional pub.

“Having listened to local people, I found that’s what they wanted, so we’ve reverted back to that and we lost more of the restaurant, but gained more of a pub feel. It has gone down really well and gives us more of a traditional bar rather than a restaurant feel.”

Along with the rebrand came a new menu, with the pub now offering daily specials and lunch offers.

Carol added: “The steaks have always been popular, and they have continued to be on the new menu.”

The themed nights include curry on a Monday, burgers on a Tuesday, where guests can double up for free, Wednesday is pie with a free pint, Thursday is steak night, and Friday is mussels and frites.

“The Sunday roasts are always popular, it’s our busiest day.”

Carol said: “Our gin is popular so we now have a weekly gin bar.

“We get new gins in every week.

“Gin has taken off, so every week we try and source a new gin, and we have a gin of the week.”

At the bar, they keep two real ales on tap at all times, with Doom Bar their most popular.

A wine list is also in the pipeline, with new wines coming to the menu soon.

Before the refurbishment, the pub used to close in the afternoon, but not any more.

Now they remain open, and offer basket meals between 3pm and 6pm.
