Hairdressing students of Southampton Technical College swept to victory in an organised competition.

The contest - an informal, friendly one - was held at Southampton's Central Hall and attracted a large audience.

Each team created women's hairstyles for day, evening and "fantasy" wear.

Judged by a panel of three experts, students of Southampton Technical College won all three sections.

The competition was the brainchild of Mrs D Sellick, head of the General Studies Department of Southampton College.

The compere was Mr HC Rumble, and Mr AW Nobbs, principle designate of Southampton Technical College.

Judges were Mrs B Laming, chairman of the Southern Area National Hairdressers' Federation; Mrs C Robinson, past president of Portsmouth Incorporated Guild of Hairdressers; and Mr H Craig, chairman of the Bournemouth Are National Hairdressers' Federation. Scrutineers were Mrs EM Luxton and her son Mr M D Luxtom - both Southampton hairdressers.
