A SOUTHAMPTON kebab restaurant has scooped a national award for the second year running.

Uni Kebab in Burgess Road won the category for best customer service at the seventh British Kebab awards.

More than 1,200 guests including more than 110 MPs and Lords, including Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, were due to attend the awards ceremony last night at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel.

Uni Kebab is run by Emma and Aziz Gezer who have owned the shop for more than two years and employ six staff.

This is the second consecutive year that the restaurant has won the customer satisfaction award.

In a previous interview Emma, 35, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support we have had from customers.

“Everything we make is homemade and we are always adding new things to the menu.

“There are a lot of kebab shops and restaurants in Southampton but I think we have a different atmosphere.

“My husband talks to every customer and remembers their names.

“It’s a casual and friendly place and we have lots of families as well as students come in.”

Emma added: “We would like to thank all our customers who have taken a minute to vote and we would like to thank our local councillors and MP for their support.

The restaurant was also nominated for the regional kebab restaurant and best value restaurant categories.

Graham Corfield, UK managing director of awards sponsor Just Eat, said: “There are so many brilliant finalists in this year’s 16 categories, all of which have been nominated due to their significant contribution to the industry.

“It’s incredibly important to celebrate the thousands of kebab restaurants across the UK and we’re delighted that we’re able to sponsor the British Kebab Awards for another year.”

This year the awards raised money for the bone and soft tissue cancer charity Sarcoma UK.

Earlier this year a poll by Just Eat showed kebabs were Southampton’s favourite takeaway.
