A WOMAN and a dog died in a house fire in Gosport

Emergency services rushed to a property in Nyria Way shortly after noon yesterday after reports of blaze.

A 52-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hampshire police said her next of kin have been informed and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) said the woman was removed from the property by firefighters, who attempted resuscitation using a defibrillator.

Crews from Fareham, Gosport, Cosham and Portchester were sent to the scene and left at 2.48pm.
In a statement released after the incident, HFRS said: "Smoke alarms provide valuable early warning of a fire, allowing families to get out, stay out and call 999.

"We ask that residents of Hampshire ensure they have working smoke alarms, test them regularly and prepare an escape plan, considering exit routes and the closing of fire doors. If you suspect a fire don’t hesitate to call."
