A FAMOUS battle in the English Civil War has been commemorated on a Hampshire field.
The re-enactors were in Cheriton near Alresford to mark the anniversary of the encounter between forces of the King Charles and Parliament in March 1644.
Lord Hopton's Regiment of Foote marched through the village on their way to the battlefield.
At the memorial stone on Cheriton Lane the reenactment group laid a wreath and the Bishop of Basingstoke, the Rt Rev David Williams, led a short service.
Earlier the group also laid a wreath at the war memorial on the village green to remember the dead of more recent wars.
