A BICYCLE, a tent and a kettle were just some of the items collected from around Southampton Common as part of a nation-wide cleaning campaign.

Sound Pop Academy hosted a spring clean at Southampton Common yesterday as part of Keep Britain Tidy's Great British Spring Clean.

A total of 30 volunteers took to the common with litter pickers and binbags to collect the rubbish left around the grounds.

In a social media post, a spokesperson from Sound Pop Academy said: "What a brilliant morning.

"We had a great turnout of Sound Pop Academy members and other amazing local people.

"In an hour and a half we filled a truck full of waste that had all been collected from around the Common.

"Such amazing community spirit. We can't wait to do it all again next year.

"Please love the area you live and use bins."

Tents, a bicycle, clothes, plastic bottles, a kettle, parasols, disposable barbecues, cans and straws were just some of the items collected by the volunteers in just over an hour.

The Great British Spring Clean is a campaign run by Keep Britain Tidy.

The campaign aims to encourage local communities to come together and help improve the environment on their doorstep.

The organisation are aiming to inspire 500,000 people nationally to collect and safely dispose of litter from the streets, parks and beaches, as well as recycling as much as possible.

The campaign was launched on March 22 and will run throughout the UK until April 23.
