LOCAL businesses are to showcase the life changing apprenticeship opportunities that they offer at a careers and apprenticeships show, taking place on the May 14 at St Mary’s stadium. Southampton City Council, working with the support of partner organisations (Southern Universities Network, Solent LEP, Southampton Solent University, Solent Apprenticeship Hub and The Careers Enterprise Company), will deliver the Careers and Apprenticeship Show supported by the Daily Echo and se1jobs.com.

This exciting event will bring together employers from a range of different sectors who will be exhibiting their career and apprenticeship opportunities. The event will have a focus on opportunities with pathways through level three to higher and degree apprenticeships.

During the day there’s a closed door event catering for schools and colleges, but from 5pm - 7pm the event is open to parents/carers and a wider audience, this also includes those who are not currently studying but are interested in finding out about the career and apprenticeship options that might be open to them.

The show aims to reach as many local people as possible, to give them the information they need to make informed choices and alongside the businesses exhibiting at the show, there will also be the opportunity to attend two workshops.

Entry is free, and in addition to the workshops you can find out about local careers and Apprenticeships. Attendees can explore a variety of different career paths, find out about the qualifications, skills and qualities required to be successful in a chosen career, get impartial information on career pathways and options and talk to employers directly about the business and career opportunities they offer.

Denise Edghill, service director, growth at Southampton City Council said: “Apprenticeships are an ideal way of developing your career, combining work-based experience with training. Apprentices gain a nationally recognised qualification, whilst earning a salary. Employers get access to local talent by taking on an apprentice, or can improve the skills of an existing employee by offering them an apprenticeship. This event is an ideal way of highlighting the fantastic apprenticeship opportunities that are out there.”
