AS MANY enjoy the glorious sunshine this bank holiday weekend - the Daily Echo show some pictures of Easter happenings from the 1980s.
Some kids donned elaborate bonnets with head-worn dioramas depicting the resurrection of Jesus, while others were seemingly made with little help from an adult.
Daily Echo photographers visited various schools to capture the kids in their seasonal headgear.
Other pictures include an Easter egg handover from Woolworths to Southampton General Hospital, as well as prize winners snapped in Wickham.
The Easter bonnet stems from the tradition of wearing new clothes at Easter which signifies the renewal of the year.
Mentions of believers wearing new threads for the festival has been documented as far back as the 16th century when Peter Opie, who noted Mercutio’s taunting of Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet: “Dids’t thou not fall out with a tailor for wearing his new Doublet before Easter?”
