POLICE investigating the death of a man outside a Southampton pub are continuing to question two suspects.

Perry Cardy, 52, suffered life-threatening injuries during the incident outside the Bitterne in Thornhill Park Road on Friday night.

Mr Cardy, who lived on the same road as the pub, was taken to Southampton General Hospital but it was confirmed on Sunday that he had died.

Hampshire Constabulary arrested two men on Sunday, as they launched an investigation, and the pair continued to be questioned yesterday.

Tributes to the “lovely” Mr Cardy have poured in on social media since the news broke.

One user posted: “Certainly was a lovely funny [man]. Condolences to his friends and family.”

Another said: “RIP Perry. Such a lovely bloke.”

A third read: “Always had a smile. RIP Perry.”

A 27-year-old was arrested on suspicion of Mr Cardy’s murder, and a 39-year-old was arrested on conspiracy to murder.

Police are now appealing for information in connection to the incident, which happened outside the pub at around 9.50pm.

Detective Inspector Lee Macarthur from the force’s Major Crime team said: “We want to hear from you if you were in the Bittern Public House at this time. Any information you have may be relevant.

The pub was closed all weekend, and remained closed yesterday, while investigations are carried out.
