PILES of rubbish including suspected asbestos have been dumped in a carpark near a Southampton school.

The Five Acres carpark on Redbridge Lane next to Oasis Academy has been filled with bags of dumped rubbish which has been piling up "for more than three weeks".

One local resident has even claimed there are boards of asbestos that have been left in the area despite reports to Southampton City Council (SCC).

Ken Golding said: "The charity bins are regularly overflowing and other debris is fly tipped.

"The shopping trolley has what appears to be either asbestos or asbestolux sheets in it and despite Southampton City Council being alerted and online reports submitted it is still there after three weeks.

"This car park is used by parents dropping off their children to the Oasis Academy and football and rugby teams all of whom would be subjected to the possibility of asbestos exposure.

"I have suggested to SCC that the only solution is to remove the charity bins and install cctv cameras, otherwise this problem will not go away."

Bags of clothes, food waste and dining chairs were also left among the rubbish dumped in the carpark.

The Daily Echo contacted Southampton City Council regarding the rubbish, but they were not able to provide a comment before the paper went to print.

It comes days after the Daily Echo's report on piles of rubbish left in a car park beside the River Itchen in Southampton.

Locals criticised the city council for taking too long to remove the mountain of rubbish.

A baby chair, rubble and old clothes were among the objects dumped in the car park - often under the cover of darkness.

One of the fabric bins had been broken open and the contents inside left strewn across the carpark.

A popular Hampshire beauty spot was also targeted by fly tippers over the Easter weekend.

Three piles of rubbish were dumped at Beaulieu Heath carpark.

The piles were made up of household waste including electrical goods and children's toys.
