A HAMPSHIRE woman is holding a charity ball in honour of her late brother.

Nicky Wright, from Bishop’s Waltham, is holding a ball in a heartfelt tribute to her late Peter, who passed away from prostate cancer last year.

Taking place at Southampton’s Hilton at the Ageas Bowl on May 17, it will be an evening of food, laughter and live entertainment.

The event, named ‘Peter’s Ball’ is a charity fundraiser to celebrate the life of Peter Sowerby.

At £100 per person, it will include a three-course dinner, welcome drink, and live auction, with all proceeds going to Prostate Cancer UK and the RAF Benevolent Fund, which supports current and former members of the force, their partners and dependants.

Peter, pictured inset, was diagnosed aged just 48 and given less than two-and-a-half years to live.

Following the news, Nicky immersed herself in charity fundraisers to help support her brother and others suffering from cancer.

She has taken part in both the 100K Night Ride in London for women’s cancers and the inaugural Serpentine Swim for the Teenage Cancer Trust,

Nicky said: “This charity ball is to fight back against cancer and to celebrate Peter and the centenary of the RAF Benevolent Fund.

“I was lucky enough to be brought up in an RAF household, which gave me the strength to combat this tough situation. Prostate cancer can happen to anyone and I want to raise as much awareness as I can.”

Nicky has strong connections to the RAF, with both of her parents being former officers who met and married at RAF Odiham in the ’60s.

Her grandfather, aunt and uncle all also served in the RAF.
