IT IS the Hampshire watering hole that can hold 600 customers and is named after Osborne House – the residential home of Queen Victoria.

The Osborne View in Hill Head Road, Fareham, is the only remaining pub along Hill Head Beach front with direct access to the shingle beach and was built in the Victorian era.

The pub boasts views of the Solent and has over 400 outside covers across a raised deck patio and large garden, as well as an outdoor bar.

Hall & Woodhouse has owned the pub since 1961 and the brewery company plan to make the pub carbon neutral by 2027 – the same year as the pub’s 250th anniversary.

Paul Reynolds, the general manager, won the Hall & Woodhouse Marketing Award for 2018/19, beating 54 other pubs owned by the chain.

Paul has managed pubs across Hampshire and Sussex, such as The Bent Arms in Lindfield, The Black Swan in Crawley and the Portsmouth Arms in Basingstoke.

He said: “I fell into the pub game and I used to work in pubs part-time to support my income – I was enjoying being down the pub. As I was here in 2003, I had a good idea of what I was getting myself into from that experience.

“I love giving the team here the opportunity to grow and to develop their own skills.

"My team have to work hard because they run up and down the stairs serving food, but we want to make this a great place to work and we listen to what they have to say.”

He added: “We are not on the top list of places to visit, but people who have been here bring their family and friends.

"Our job is to keep that wow factor going.

“Sunday roasts are massive here and we offer five different types to customers. Two of our chefs are also vegan so they want our dishes to cater for vegans, and once a month we have live music.”

The Osborne View also offers dog-friendly ice cream.
