THERE is no chance of any company, Lolo or otherwise, making money on Mediterranean routes out of SOU all the while they have to leave rows of seats empty in order to take off safely and legally with sufficient fuel (weight).

Unless and until the airport is permitted to extend the runway 170m at the northern end, these routes are non-viable as fillable seats cannot be sold at competitive rates.

Obviously the company held off as long as possible before announcing the pull-out – and finally blaming it on Brexit. No doubt, they (like many) had assumed it would have happened by now. Very embarrassing!
