POLICE rushed to a supermarket in Winchester after reports of staff being threatened by a man.

Officers were called to the Tesco store in Easton Lane, Winnall, at around 10pm on Monday.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making a bomb hoax (communicating false information and a public order offence).

He was given a conditional caution for the public order offence, with a condition to write a letter of apology to the store. He was released with no further action for the bomb hoax offence.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “The incident has been treated as an isolated one with no wider risk to the store or local community.”
