SOUTHAMPTON shoppers could find themselves lost as Westquay brings a 400m maze back to the city.

The Maze on The Esplanade will be returning for a second year after thousands of people took part in the challenge in 2018.

The maze offers fun for all the family and a chance for shoppers to challenge one another to a thrilling race to the finish for free.

Andy Collyer, general manager at Westquay said: “We want our shopping centre to be recognised as a destination not just for great retail, dining and leisure but for experiences that are truly unique, exciting and offer fun for all the family.

“Shoppers loved exploring the maze last year with over 34,000 taking part in the action, so we’re thrilled to be bringing it back to the esplanade, this time with the addition of the urban treehouse. “

The 400m long maze features over 2m tall hedges and invites shoppers to navigate their way through the twists and turns to make it from start to finish in the quickest time.

Exclusive to this year’s maze, speedy shoppers who reach the centre of the labyrinth will also be able to discover Westquay’s secret treehouse escape which offers spectacular views across the Esplanade and selfie opportunities.

The maze will be in the same space as the temporary ice rink that was open throughout the festive period last year.

The maze will officially open on May 24 at 10am to 7pm and will run until June 7.

Last year, the maze was opened in March and ran for one month.

The maze spanned more than 9,000-square feet and had multiple routes for shoppers to enjoy.

At the centre participants could find a code for a free ice-cream as the reward for finding their way out.

The attraction follows the ice rink and the festival of light, that returned to the Old City Walls for its second event earlier this year.
