POLICE launched a major operation in Southampton.
A number of police officers have been carrying out an investigation in Shirley High Street.
Residents said that police have been at the scene for most of yesterday..
The investigation centred on the Propaganda hair and beauty salon on the junction of Lumsden Avenue and Shirley High Street.
People living nearby said they saw officers bring out a number of large sacks from the premises.
A number of Hampshire Police vehicles and two fire appliances were also seen outside the shop that is reported to have been empty since before Christmas.
One Shirley High Street resident said: "I was worried when I saw the police I though it could have been anything."
Another said they saw police arrive early this morning before leaving at about 7.45pm tonight.
He added: "Police have been in and out the shop all day it must be something quite serious."
