DOZENS of people flocked to Fareham to take part in a sailing open day.

On May 5, Hill Head Sailing Club held it’s open day to coincide with the Royal Yachting Associations Push the Boat Out initiative to get more people involved in Watersports.

The event was hosted by Hill Head’s Commodore Chris Laws.

The day started at 9am with kayaking and canoeing run by British Canoeing Instructors from Gosport Scout Kayaking.

The activities were followed by sailing at 11am and paddleboarding at 2.30pm.

Hill Head had a range for boats on the water, including cruisers, RS Visions ,a Laser 2000,a Mirror, a Hartley 12, a Wayfarer, RS Teras, RS Fevas and Oppies for supervised rides for anyone interested.

The club house was open all day, providing lunch and a constant supply of teas and coffees all day.

The RNLI had a stall and the Hamble Lifeboat visited.

There was also a visit from the Port of Southampton Launch.

All dinghies were helmed by cadets from age 10-years-old and up, which was commented upon by all visitors as to their "professionalism and enthusiasm".

More than 60 club members helped make the day a success with several families opting to join on the day with more interested people hopefully joining during May.
