It was the year when we waved goodbye to the 115th season of competitive football in England.
Although Newcastle United had been twelve points clear at the top of the Premier League table, Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United toppled them in the second half of the season to win the title. They also won the FA Cup that year.
In January, Terry Venables stepped down as England manager with Glen Hoddle taking his place
Ex Saint Alan Shearer was the top goal scorer in the that season with 31 goals when he starred for Blackburn Rovers.
