PATIENTS will be able to get an update on the new Lifeboat Quay Medical Centre development at a public event this week.

When it opens later this summer, the centre will become the new home for staff and patients of Carlisle House Surgery, Lagland Street, Poole.

Along with updates on the build, those attending the event – which is scheduled for Poole town centre – will be able to see plans for the new surgery and speak to members of the team who will be on hand to answer any questions.

In addition, they can find out more about getting involved in their patient participation group.

Carlisle House practice manager Jill Tobin said: “Since we announced the move earlier this year construction has progressed rapidly, and we are on schedule to open this summer.

"This event gives us the opportunity to keep patients informed, whilst at the same time reassuring them that they will see the same doctors and get the same friendly service.

"Lifeboat Quay Medical Centre will give us the ability to provide high quality primary care services for the rapidly increasing local population.

"In addition to our existing registered patients we are extending the invite to people who may just be curious as to what is happening at the site and would like to find out a bit more."

Work started on the project, in a vacant unit of the Lifeboat Quay building off Holes Bay Road, Poole, in February this year.

The development opposite Asda is currently occupied by Travelodge hotel, as well as Subway and Costa Coffee.

Eventually, the new surgery will include up to 84 parking spaces, and allocated spaces for disabled patients will mean improved access for those attending appointments by car. There is also a bus stop just 100m away for patients who are using public transport.

It is expected to offer treatments and services encompassing the latest technology.

In the meantime, services will continue as normal from Carlisle House Surgery.

The public information event takes place at The Spire, High Street, Poole, between 2-6pm on Thursday, May 23.

For those unable to attend, information from the event will be made available online afterwards via the Carlisle House Surgery website http://www.carlislehousesurgery.nhs.uk/
