POLICE are continuing to appeal for information after a man suffered "multiple puncture wounds" during an attack in Salisbury city centre last night.
The victim, in his 40s, was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital in a "serious condition" after being attacked in Catherine Street at around 8.40pm yesterday.
However, police say his condition is now described as stable.
A 37-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody at Melksham Police Station.
Wiltshire Police has not yet confirmed what type of item caused the "puncture wounds" during the attack.

Det Sgt Laura Cook, from Salisbury CID, said: “I know last night’s incident will have caused concern amongst the local community and I want to reassure you that we are carrying out a detailed investigation.
“There will be a visible police presence in the city throughout today, including officers and detectives examining the scene of the assault.
“We know there will have been people who will have witnessed the incident and will have information that could assist with our enquiries, and we would urge you to come forward.
“You can either approach an officer you see out and about, or you can call us - we can treat your call confidentially if you prefer.”
Inspector Pete Sparrow, from Wiltshire South Community Policing Team, added: “Obviously, incidents of violent crime will raise concerns and create worry, but these types of offences almost always involve people who are known to each other – they are very rarely random attacks.
“Last night’s assault comes during a busy week for police in the south of the county and I have seen concerns raised by people worried about how safe Salisbury is.
“I want to reassure you that Salisbury remains a very safe city.
“Also, I hope people will find comfort in how quickly we were able to respond to last night’s assault. Police were on the scene within four minutes of receiving the 999 call and we quickly made an arrest.
“However, the investigation is ongoing so I would urge anyone who may know something which could assist our enquiries to come forward.”
