INVESTIGATORS are looking into what started a fire at property in a village near Winchester,

Two fire crews attended the building in Churchfields, Twyford, at around 10.50am on Monday.

The fire was well alight and four firefighters in breathing apparatus were needed to douse the flames.

One crew from Winchester and one from St Mary’s were called at 10:48 yesterday morning to a domestic fire on Churchfields in Twyford.

A fire service spokesman said: "Smoke was issuing from the ground floor when crews arrived. The fire in the ground floor living room was extinguished using four sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel, one jet and tactical ventilation.

"The incident was passed over to police and the fire investigation team to investigate the cause."

The crews, from Winchester and St Mary's, left the scene at 1pm.
