A NEW snooker club could be coming to the city's high street after plans were submitted to civic chiefs.

An application to transform a building on Above Bar Street, Southampton, into a snooker and pool club has been put forward to Southampton City Council.

The plans have been proposed by Rod Cake of Sharkeys Sports Bar, who already has a club in Bournemouth.

The site proposed near to pizza and pie restaurant The Stable and hair dresser Toni and Guy's located in the city's cultural quarter.

The bar will stretch over three floors with a snooker room on the top floor.

Plans state the proposed change to the use of a second floor retail unit to a billiard and snooker hall with bars and ancillary storage and office space.

The bar could create up to 15 new jobs in the city including five part-time jobs, ten full-time jobs and possibly two security staff.

The bar will feature a bar featuring billiard, snooker and pool tables, along with table tennis.

The venue could also host Xbox parties for children as well as billiards and table tennis tuition.

The proposals come just months after plans to turn an empty snooker hall in Southampton into 20 new flats.

The former Riley’s American Pool and Snooker Club in Shirley has stood empty for almost four years and in January an application was put forward to demolish the abandoned building to make way for 22 new flats.
