HAMPSHIRE police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an 11-year-old boy died when he was hit by two cars.

Emergency services were called to Southampton Road, Titchfield, at about 4.26pm following the incident.

Police say the boy, a pedestrian, was crossing the road when he was hit by a Vauxhall Mokka and a VW Golf on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Cheryl Robinson, a 60-year-old resident in Titchfield, said: “The road was closed off until 9pm that night and my neighbour said she saw a boy lying on the ground when she was driving past just after it happened.

“She also told me there was an older lady who was sitting in the middle of the recreation ground crying her eyes out.”

One resident said: “I have known him all of his life as I felt like crying when I heard the news. I have seen him grow up, as I live across the road from him, and it is just so hard. I was shivering after I was told he was dead as well.”

Janet Sutton, a 76-year-old retired NHS employee, said: “We could see there had been a major accident yesterday when were trying to get home.

“It was absolutely gridlocked in Titchfield and when we heard a little boy died we thought of the family and the driver. It is dreadful.”

A resident said: “I heard emergency services sirens and I heard them rushing down the road. It is sad because it is the end of someone’s life and I know it happened close to Titchfield Primary School.”

Another resident added: “The whole incident is tragic. There do not seem to be any crossing points that are suitable for an 11-year-old to use on that road. When I was picking my daughter up from nursery yesterday I could see an air ambulance coming to the scene.”

Specialist officers are providing support to the boy’s family and no other injuries occurred at the scene on June 3.

A spokesperson from Hampshire police said: “Anyone with information, please contact us on 101.”
