IT is the arrival few would expect to see on the runway at Southampton Airport.

But the eagle-eyed may have spotted Air Force One touch-down in Eastleigh yesterday.

The plane arrived at the airport on the same day US President Donald Trump visited Hampshire.

He flew from Southampton Airport to Ireland, following his state visit to the UK.

Mr Trump was in Portsmouth yesterday to join a large gathering of veterans, dignitaries and world leaders to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

While in Ireland, Mr Trump will travel to his hotel and golf resort in Doonbeg.

He will also hold a meeting with Irish premier Leo Varadkar at Shannon Airport.

On the first day of Mr Trump's three-day trip he received a ceremonial welcome attended by the Queen, Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall at Buckingham Palace.

He later took part in a private lunch at the palace, in the company of the Duke of Sussex.
