SOUTHAMPTON has been listed as Britain's third “proudest home city”, a new survey has revealed.

It was revealed that 93.8 per cent of Southampton residents said they would not swap the city they were born.

A survey conducted by Ladbrokes asked UK residents whether they’d ‘stick or twist’ on various aspects of their life, including where they are from, their hair colour, their profession and even the sports team they support.

Top of the "proudest home city" table is Sheffield, with 95 per cent of residents saying they would not swap the city for anything.

It's followed by Liverpool at 94.2 per cent; Nottingham at 93.4 per cent; Norwich at 93.3 per cent; Leeds at 93.1 per cent; Belfast at 92.9 per cent; Cardiff at 92.7 per cent; Bristol at 92.2 per cent and Newcastle at 91.8 per cent.

Ladbrokes PR manager John Hill said: “Against a media backdrop that is usually dominated by negative stories about our towns and cities, it’s great to see that the majority of Brits are proud of where they come from - and where they live.”

Ranking lowest is the nation’s capital.

A total of 13.2 per cent of Londoners say they would swap being born there for somewhere else, followed by Birmingham with 13 per cent and Glasgow with 11.5 per cent.

A total of 86.6 per cent of Southampton residents said they would not swap their current homes for somewhere nicer, making Southampton the top location for people who say they wouldn’t change where they live currently.
