A HAMBLE youngster has been left with potentially life-changing injuries after a suspected hit and run incident involving a cyclist.

She had been travelling to school on her scooter when a rider smashed into her and knocked her to the ground.

The incident happened on Wednesday at around 8.10am on Hamble Lane and was the day after her 12th birthday.

Hampshire Police have reported the cyclist did not stop at the scene and the girl was later taken to hospital for treatment for serious facial injuries.

According to the girls' mother, the doctors at Southampton General Hospital could not do anything because her face was so swollen and bruised.

She added that the collision could have severed a nerve and left her blinded permanently and that she can't attend school.

The mother who wishes to remain unnamed said: "She went face first on to the ground – any decent person would see she was covered in blood and would have stopped. She is still in a state and the slightest knock could cause serious damage."

Anyone who witnessed the incident can contact police on 101, quoting 44190194059.
