THIEVES went on a crime spree and targeted 12 cars across the area.

Break-ins were reported in Oak Vale, Upmill Close, Barbe Baker Ave, and Charmwen Crescent.

Four cars in Eden Road were broken into as well as another four in Ivy Lane in Swaythling.

An iPod touch, sunglasses, a work pass and car keys were stolen during the incidents.

A motorbike has also been stolen from Swaythling Road.

The incidents happened between 1am and 3.30am on Saturday, June 8.

Around the same time, there was an attempted burglary at an address on The Drive, where thieves failed to gain entry.

Police are now appealing for witnesses with any information such as descriptions of the thieves’ clothing, and direction of travel.

PC William Nye, said: “We need to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the areas of Ivy Lane, Eden Close or The Drive during the early hours of Saturday, June 8.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who thinks they may have been targeted but have not yet made contact with us.

He added: “Please don’t think this won’t happen to you as a large number of crimes are purely opportunistic.”

The police are urging residents with private CCTV or dash cam footage of the incidents to make contact.

They are advising residents to keep their car doors locked and remove all valuable property, including bags and coats.

To help reduce the chance of becoming a victim of vehicle crime, residents are urged to fit an alarm or immobiliser to their cars and to remove sat nav holders and visible sat nav ring marks from windscreens.

The police added that thieves have and will, break into cars for bags and coats, due to the possibility they may contain valuables, thieves will also search unlocked vehicles for anything including, chargers, loose coins, sunglasses and keys.
