RENEWED attempts to improve building facilities at New Forest Water Park are set to be refused by councillors.

Proposals to carry out a three-storey extension of the club house at the site off Ringwood Road, Fordingbridge go before members of New Forest District Council's planning committee today Wednesday(June 12).

The plans follow failed attempts in recent years to add additional accommodation on the site, with an appeal ongoing into the most recent rejected scheme.

The development set to be discussed by the committee has been recommended for refusal by planning officer Stephen Belli.

A report compiled by Mr Belli says: "This application raises issues relating to the principle of further residential development in the countryside which in all cases should be properly justified.

"The site already benefits from a considerable amount of staff and manager accommodation and there is no overriding reason for allowing a substantial further increase in the manager’s accommodation.

"Secondly, the mass and bulk of the extension with its detailing, exhibits poor design quality, contrary to stated policies."

The rear extension proposal had been backed by Fordingbridge Town Council and no objections were raised by statutory consultees.
