A NEW development is asking Southampton residents for their old clothes.

Southampton’s first build to rent development is calling for residents of the city to spring-clean their wardrobes this Recycle Awareness Week.

As part of its ongoing charity efforts within the local area, Bow Square has announced that it will be providing a donation point for those wishing to hand over their unneeded clothes – with all donations going to Southampton City Mission clothes bank.

Adam Dale, community manager at Bow Square, said: “Giving back to the city of Southampton is a top priority for us, and we feel lucky to be in a position to be able to help those less fortunate than ourselves.”

The Southampton City Mission is an independent, non-denominational Christian charity which works closely with churches in the city to help provide the people of Southampton with emergency food and clothing.

George Sousa, service supervisor at Bow Square, added: “The volunteers at Southampton City Mission do an incredible job and their work is vital in helping the people of this fantastic city.

"With the donation point positioned in our reception, it couldn’t be easier to donate your unwanted items while ensuring that they go to somebody in need and not just to landfill.”

The Southampton City Mission donation point will be at Bow Square Apartments from the June 17 to 23.

Located off Queensway and Bernard Street, Bow Square is an innovative development of 279 apartments built exclusively for renters.

The build-to-rent community has previously held initiatives for charities including the Southampton Children’s Neurological Unit, a cause close to the team’s heart.

Dave Osborne, basics bank manager at Southampton City Mission said: “We are thrilled to be Bow Square’s chosen charity during Recycle Awareness Week.

"Our clothes are displayed at our clothes bank at Ascension Church, Bitterne Park, where people can ‘shop’ with vouchers provided by referral agents.

"We are extremely grateful for the deeply needed support from Bow Square and all those who donate.”
