IT was one of Amanda’s dearest wishes to take part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life one more time after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The school lunchtime supervisor was suffering from deteriorating health, and did not think she would be able to participate.

But her daughters, Lucinda, 23, and Jennifer, 26, had other ideas and arranged for Amanda Foulds to fulfil her wish and cover the 5k course at Southampton in a brightly decorated wheelchair.

Six months later, Amanda passed away – but Lucinda will once again be joining thousands of women, men and children taking part in Southampton’s Race for Life this weekend, to honour the memory of her mum.

Lucinda, who lives in Bitterne, said: “I asked to help out at the warm-up after mum died. I wanted to get involved and I have done it ever since and want to continue in her memory.

“The reason I do the warm up is because of my mum. It is almost four years since she passed away.

“She liked to help people. She always put other people first. That day she took part in her last Race for Life we were able to put her first.”

Amanda, who worked at Park Gate Primary School and lived at Locks Heath, was only 51 when she died in December 2015 after a long battle with cancer.

She was first diagnosed with breast cancer over twenty years ago but recovered.

Lucinda said: “I was only two when Mum was first diagnosed. When it came back in 2013 it was with a vengeance and by the time it was found, the cancer had spread”.

One month before she passed away Amanda went on her first cruise with her husband Don, 53.

Weeks later she went into a hospice, where she died.

Lucinda said: “Race for Life was also high on her wish list and in January 2015 we just signed up to do it.

“We were just so happy we managed to get Mum to do Race for Life again, even if she was in pain.”

l Southampton Race for Life takes place at 11am in Southampton on Sunday, June 23.
