AN EASTLEIGH youngster has been selected to represent Hampshire in a national high jump competition for the third year in a row.

Barton Peveril college student, Jessica Gordon has been selected to represent the county in the senior girls under 19s high jump category at the English Schools Athletics Association (ESAA) championships.

It is the fourth largest athletics event in the world and will take place in Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on July 12 and July 13, with track and field athletes representing regions from across the country.

Speaking on her selection Jessica said:

"I'm really pleased that I have been given the opportunity to compete for the third year.

"This year, I feel much more confident in my jumping, clearing 1.70m multiple times puts me in a good place for the competition in July, where I hope to come in the top eight."

Director of sport at the college, Luke Hampton said: "Jess has done incredibly well to be selected for such a competitive team, three years in a row. She’s a very talented athlete and we look forward to seeing how she gets on at this Championship and in her future sporting career."
