SOUTHAMPTON University has ranked amongst the top 100 universities in a recent World University Ranking.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) a higher education company publishes a list of 1,001 institutions and ranks them based on factors including research and global reputation.

Southampton has maintained its place amongst the world’s top 100 universities after placing 97th overall in this year's rankings.

It reportedly scores well for international students and international faculty.

Earlier this year, the university placed five subjects amongst the top 50 in the world.

For nursing it was fifth overall, mining engineering at 30th, earth and marine sciences at 46th, statistics and operational research at 48th and archaeology at 48th.

Over 1.5 million academics and 240,000 employers around the world contributed their views to QS this year.
