A DRIVER caught speeding on a Southampton road while temporary restrictions were in place has been fined.

Yvette Henry, 35, was caught driving at 49mph on A33 Redbridge Road on July 23 last year.

At the time of the incident, the official speed limit on the road was 50mph, but had been temporarily reduced to 40mph since 2016.

At a hearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, Henry, of Clarendon Road, Shanklin, Isle of Wight, was fined £100, ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and given three points on her licence.

She had previously pleaded guilty at a hearing at Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

As previously reported in the Echo, the speed limit on the A33 Redbridge Road was reduced to 40mph in 2016 following a structural audit of the flyovers along Western Approach.

In July last year, Southampton City Council announced the temporary speed limit would be made permanent.
