A ROMSEY man has finally scored a hole-in-one after playing for 53 years.

Pete Morton, who lives in Church Lane, was playing a round at Hamptworth Golf, Hamptworth Road, when he hit his dream shot.

The retired school teacher was playing on the fourth hole with the Hamptworth Seniors on July 4.

Pete, who is 70-years-old, said: "The ball was nowhere to be seen on the green so, of course, I glanced in the hole and there it was, looking back at me. It was a day to remember for ever and I was amazed.

"I have been telling everybody about my hole-in-one, because I did not think it would ever happen. My wife was delighted to hear about it.

"My dad and I used to play golf together. I used to get up when I was 17-years-old, take my dad to work and play golf in the summer holidays.

"There were also three of us at school in sixth form and we got into it to the point where we spent two weeks in St Andrews playing the sport."

Pete told the Romsey Advertiser he enjoys playing golf because he has to "keep concentrating during play and it is an independent sport".

His favourite golfer is Seve Ballesteros, a world number one who was one of the sport's leading figures from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s.

Pete has also played a number of competitions over the years and has bagged approximately £170 in winnings over the last three years.
