Thousands of children have been helped to find their footing in the outdoors thanks to a centre in Keswick.

The Field Studies Council’s Kids Fund has provided more than £150,000 to centres across the UK, including Blencathra Field Centre in Threlkeld. The centre offers children an escape from many difficult situations. The latest funding provided financial support to children sheltering from domestic abuse.

Jennie Comerford, the FSC’s national grants officer, said: “Sadly, for various reasons, many young people do not get the opportunity, but over the years we have been able to address this barrier by providing funding to groups to visit one of our 20 centres.

“We are extremely proud of the work we have achieved so far through the fund. We believe no one should miss out on such opportunities, we are proud to be supporting those most in need of being curious about the natural world.”
