THE CITY'S biggest summer cycling event is to hit the streets this weekend.

HSBC UK Let’s Ride Southampton is returning to the city this weekend, with thousands expected to join the free cycling festival and see their city from the saddle.

For the first ever time, this year’s route will commence from St Mary’s stadium.

The main route will take riders on a 6.25km circuit of the city centre via the city’s parks before heading through the stadium itself for the finale.

There will also be the option of a shorter loop for those who don’t wish to complete the full route.

Riders can join in at any stage, completing as many circuits as they wish.

The free-to-attend event will start from St Mary’s Stadium at 11am, with live music and a host of family-friendly activities taking place along the 6.25km course.

Winding around Southampton cyclists will make their way through Queens Park, Hoglands Park, Guildhall and back to the stadium.

Finishing at 3pm, there is a shorter loop on offer for those looking for an easier circuit to ride, participants are invited to cycle the course as many times as they wish at their own pace.

Other attractions on the day include food and drink stalls, a stunt show, face painting, and a children’s learn to ride programme.

CEO of British Cycling, Julie Harrington said: "Southampton played host to a fantastic event last year, and we’ve worked hard - alongside Southampton City Council and local businesses and attractions - to ensure that HSBC UK Let’s Ride Southampton will again be a truly enjoyable, free and family-friendly day out which showcases the best of the city and the real benefits of cycling."

The day will include a series of fun activities and challenges for everyone to enjoy – from music and local street food, to live stunt shows and much more.

At Hoglands Park there will be a stunt show as well as performances from SoCo’s Recovery Community Band and ribbon and fan dancers.

There will be acts throughout the day at St Mary's Stadium including folk guitarist Arielle who has performed with Brian May and CeeLo Green.

There will also be musicians throughout the day at central parks along the route.

There will be a range of exhibitors and activities on offer at Queens Park throughout the day, including Bike Doctors, demo bike rides, pop up sports and much more.
