SIX animal accidents occurred in the New Forest over a four-day period - including three hit-and runs.

The latest casualty figures from the Verderers show that the week beginning July 8 was one of the worst for several months.

The first hit-and-run involved a baby donkey which had to be humanely destroyed after an accident on the B3078 at Crows Nest. Later that day a foal was injured in a hit-and-run near the Rising Sun pub at Wootton near New Milton.

Exactly 24 hours later a baby donkey was injured on the B3078 at Longcross and had to be put down.

A few hours later a cow was injured in an accident at Bramshaw Telegraph.

On July 13 a donkey foal was involved in a hit-and-run outside the Fighting Cocks on the B3078 at Godshill - an hour after a collision involving a pony on the B3054 near Beaulieu. Neither animal could be found.
