A SOUTHAMPTON man assaulted a woman and harassed her with a "grossly excessive" number of calls and messages.

Wayne William Brown was found guilty of two counts of assault on the same victim and one count of harassment at Southampton Magistrates' Court.

The court heard one of the assault counts took place between July and September last year, while another took place on September 22.

The one count of harassment took place between August and October last year.

He denied all charges against him, but was found guilty by magistrates.

Brown, 45, of Farringford Road, Southampton, was ordered to pay £1,500 to his victim.

He was also made the subject of a 12 month community order, including 90 hours of unpaid work.

Brown was also made the subject of a restraining order, preventing him from contacting his victim, and ordered to pay £500 in court costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
