A SEVENTH man arrested in connection with the targeted shooting of a father-of-two in Hampshire has been released on bail.

On Saturday a 41-year-old man from Owslebury was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

The man has now been released until August 23 pending further inquiries.

He was arrested in connection the death of Gurinderjit Rai, 41, whose body found in a car parked in a lay-by in Shepherds Farm Lane, Corhampton, on the morning of Saturday July 13.

A post-mortem examination confirmed the man died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Police revealed last week that a sixth man, a 31-year-old from Winchester, has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

It came after a 25-year-old man, a 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, all from Winchester, and a 31-year-old man from Eastleigh were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Aston Hannis, 28, of Woolford Close in Stanmore, Winchester will be sentenced next month after refusing to give police investigating the possible ‘targeted murder’ codes to access devices.

Hannis indicated a plea of guilty at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court after being charged under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA).

Hannis is due to be sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on August 16 and remains in custody.

Last week tributes were paid to Mr Rai from Eastleigh, also known as G.

His family said: “Gurinderjit was a devoted father to his two young children and a loving fiancé to his partner. He adored his parents.

“He had an infectious sense of humour and would always find the best of any situation.

“He was a principled man and would always be the first to offer help to those that needed it. He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends.”
