A COLOURFUL CELEBRATION of African culture will be taking place to mark the harvest season.
The New Yam Festival will be taking place on September 14 at Victory Hall on Warsash Road in Warsash.
Running from 4pm to 11pm it is an annual festival celebrated by the Igbo people who originally come from Nigeria.
The occasion symbolises the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the next work cycle.
It is an important event in the calendar of Igbos and brings together members of the African community.
The New Yam Festival, or Iwa-ji - as it is known in the Igbo language - is a celebration marking the importance of yams which are a staple crop in West Africa.
It is organised by cultural group Nzuko Ndi Igbo Hampshire which promotes unity and cooperation between all Igbos living in the county and encourages cultural learning.
The mayor of Fareham, Cllr Pamela Bryant will be attending on the evening.
Entertainment will include dancing, traditional foods and a DJ set.
