TOMORROW is the big day for thousands of GCSE students across Hampshire.

Results will be available from schools and colleges in the morning allowing teenagers to plan the next steps in their lives.

Some will go on to study A levels or BTECs while others will go into work or take on apprenticeships.

The Good Schools Guide has issued advice to students and their parents as the big day approaches.

It urges students to take a mobile phone with them when they collect their results so they can contact family and friends.

It also suggests taking a trusted adult for moral support and a pen, piece of paper and a calculator.

Good Schools Guide director Bernadette John urged parents to accompany their children to school

"Quite often, children might want to go on their own or with friends. But I would say go with them - and if anything has gone awry, get in and sort it out straight away" she said.

"Perhaps just say ‘I’ve got to pop into town anyway’. You need to be there – if they don’t get the results they want, they’re likely to be upset."

Tomorrow morning the Daily Echo will be running a live blog of results at dailyecho.co.uk

There will also be a double-page spread in Friday's Daily Echo newspaper.
