IT IS the Test Valley pub aiming to provide a homely feel.

The Hatchet Inn, Salisbury Road, in Sherfield English, was built to reflect an 1860s coach inn and is owned by Heineken.

The dog-friendly pub can house approximately 60 people and features a new pub garden where children can enjoy a Peppa Pig bouncy castle.

Lin Wilkins, one of the landladies, said: "We have a pretty extensive menu and most of it is home-made. Our popular dishes are steak and kidney pie and fish and chips.

"On a Tuesday and Thursday night we do two-for-one steak night.

"We do four different lagers and we do do sell a lot of real ale as well. We also come up as one of the top places to eat on TripAdvisor."

The pub offers an OAP two course menu from Monday to Thursday alongside the rest of their usual menu and their customers range from "a baby to 85 years old", according to Lin.

Lin's business partner, Liz Murray, said: "We do a monthly pub quiz usually on the second Wednesday of every month and the prize money is £20.

"Most people put money into the Bell's bottle by the bar and there was about £300 in it before."

The pub also boats two darts team, which can have between six and 12 people, who play from October to April.

Liz added: "We are quite a community pub here and up the road the sports field was bought by us in 2000. Now it has tennis courts and football pitches.

"We also have carollers who come here during Christmas and everyone has their carol sheets in the middle of the pub."

The Hatchet Inn also shows BT Sport and had "quite a few in the pub for the Champions League final", according to Lin.

The pub will soon be hosting their seventh annual beer and cider festival from August 23 to August 25.

It will feature artists such as The Rockin Bandits, P.D.S Band and Special Guest and Chasing Time.

Residents will also be able to enjoy a barbeque and a gin tent during the event.
