A GIN festival will fill the Millers Pond Pub over the bank holiday weekend.

It comes after more than 200 people attended their cider festival during the same August bank holiday last year, however the pub are expecting to bring in more visitors this time as there are "more gin-lovers out there than cider-lovers".

The pub on Middle Road in Sholing is offering over 170 different types of gin for the entirety of the weekend, along with pizzas made by pub pizza provider company Barrel and Stone and live music that will be played during each evening of the festival.

Some unusual gin flavours that will be sold by bar staff include mint chocolate, rhubarb and custard, cherry bakewell, baked apple and salted caramel, sticky toffee, rhubarb and mint, seaweed and the new spiced Peaky Blinders gin which is based on the BBC television series.

A charity raffle is also being held to raise money for the Dogs Trust charity, which began collecting donations on Tuesday August 20 and runs up until the festival, when the prize winners will be announced, while a bouncy castle for children will be placed in the garden on Sunday.

Manager of the pub Brodie Wheeler, 24, said: "It's family and dog-friendly, and everyone is welcome to come.

"Gin is big now, so we decided not to do a cider festival and to do a gin festival instead. We buy gin from all over the world, including different cities and countries, and we've even got mint chocolate flavoured gin - I'm not sure who is going to like that one, but you never know."

Landlord Alan Taylor said: "This is the first gin festival at the Millers Pond Pub and it will be a great way of trying a new flavour drink and catching up with friends.

"The Millers Pond is also a dog-friendly pub so we felt it was time for a charity event for the dogs."

The event will be open to the public between 2pm to 7pm from Saturday until Monday.
