A MAN was attacked with a knife during a robbery attempt in Southampton city centre.

Police have launched an investigation after the man in his twenties riding a bike was approached on Above Bar Street by an unknown man who demanded he hand over the bicycle.

The victim ignored his orders and cycled off towards Westquay, however he was scratched on the arm by a knife as he rode away.

This incident happened between 6.20pm and 6.40pm on Thursday evening, between Poundland and the Westquay entrance.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "Maybe you saw this incident, or part of it? The victim was riding a black and green mountain bike, and the man who approached him is described as wearing white trousers and a black T-shirt.
