AN EASTLEIGH surgery has been told it requires improvement in its safety and effectiveness within its latest inspection report.

Boyatt Wood Surgery, also know as Dr Cyril Stephen, on Shakespeare Road, which has 7,289 registered patients in Eastleigh, was told it requires improvement in its most recent CQC report.

In total the surgery, which provides a range of services including GP consultations, a diabetes clinic and a baby clinic, was told it required improvements in two out of five categories.

The practice was also told improvement was needed when looking after people with long-term conditions, and people experiencing poor mental health.

Inspectors looked for evidence that the service had clear systems, practices and processes to keep people safe and safeguarded from abuse.

When observed for how effective the care home was, inspectors said the category required improvement.

In the report, it reveals that 27.8 per cent of patients with schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and other psychoses who have a comprehensive, agreed care plan documented in the record, in the preceding 12 months - the average percentage in England for this is 89.5 per cent.

It also revealed that a total 33.3 per cent of those patients had their alcohol consumption has been recorded in the preceding 12 months, with England’s figures averaging at 90 per cent.

There was a total of 40 per cent of patients diagnosed with dementia whose care plan has been reviewed in a face-to-face review in the preceding 12 months, which was revealed to be 83 per cent - more than half of England’s average.

During this inspection, the category “safe” was also rated as requires improvement.

The report said: “At the time of inspection, the practice had not identified or trained a second fire marshal.

“Only the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) lead had received IPC training.

“The IPC policy and procedure, which had last been reviewed in June 2018, identified that all staff should undertake IPC training as part of their induction.”

The three other categories inspected by CQC - “Effective”, “Well-led” and “Responsive” - were rated ‘good’.

The Daily Echo has contacted Boyatt Wood Surgery for a comment, but it had not responded at the time of going to press.
