THE ROMSEY cadet squadron hosted an award evening following a gruelling inspection.
Officer commanding Hampshire air cadets wing commander, Mark Trevena, visited the 1391 (Romsey) Squadron at their headquarters on the Romsey School site last Friday to conduct the formal inspection.
The cadets and uniformed staff were put through their paces with a parade including a march past showing off the squadron banner.
The cadets also took part in a radio and airfield control exercise with demonstrations of camouflage.
Wing commander, Trevena, said: "It was fantastic to see such a range of exciting training topics interfacing in a single activity."
He added that the cadets "were clearly having a great time".
The evening also saw the award ceremony of a highly coveted BTEC in Aviation Studies.
The award went to cadet flight sergeant, Henry Whalvin.
He said: "This is the culmination of five years of training during which I have learnt a great deal about aviation and the RAF.
"To get a qualification for enjoying your hobby is a bonus."
The evening also marked the last night as Squadron commander for flight lieutenant, Julia Whalvin after a total of five years.
Taking over is flight lieutenant Bertie Green, who was squadron commander for the Romsey group from 2011 to 2014.
He said: "I am looking forward to leading the delivery of a wide array of exciting activities for the cadets.
"Whether it is flying, gliding, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, first aid, BTEC, music, leadership or sports, we have something for everyone, and I mean everyone, to get stuck into."
